Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine

Iwami Ginzan is a historic silver mine in Japan, consisting of the Omori, Ginzan, and Onsen areas. The Omori area retains Edo-period government offices and samurai residences, the Ginzan area was the center of silver mining and production, and the Onsen area flourished as a port for shipping silver. This silver mine was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2007, the first mining site in Asia to receive this designation. Taikodani Inari Shrine

Taikodani Inari Shrine, established in 1773 by the 7th lord of the Tsuwano Domain, Kamei, is known for its 300-meter pathway lined with about 1,000 vermillion torii gates. This shrine is one of Japan’s five great Inari shrines, alongside Takekoma Inari in the Tohoku region, Kasama Inari in Kanto, Fushimi Inari in Kinki, and Yutoku Inari in Kyushu. It ranks second in annual visitors among shrines in Shimane Prefecture, following Izumo Taisha.

Matsue Castle

Built in 1607 by the Horio clan, Matsue Castle sits atop Kamedayama Hill and appears four stories high externally, but it has five internal floors plus a basement. The castle is about 30 meters tall, making it the third tallest among existing Japanese castles, following Himeji Castle and Matsumoto Castle.
